Ryan Phillippe was accused of assault by ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt, who alleges the actor kicked, punched and threw her down a flight of stairs earlier this year. The model reportedly got a protective order against Phillippe back in July following some kind of domestic violence altercation. Despite the incident happening more than two months ago, the news only emerged Monday.
Hewitt told the LAPD she and Phillippe got into a scuffle on the fourth of July, which resulted in the actor allegedly hitting her and then throwing her “down a flight of stairs causing visible injuries to legs back, arms, shoulder and face.” Hewitt also told cops that the actor was trying to contact her after the incident and she feared he would “cause her additional injury.” Authorities issued an Emergency Protective Order against Phillippe on July 6, forcing him to stay 100 yards away from the model.
While she didn’t mention Phillippe by name or specifics about the incident, shortly after the news broke about the alleged assault, Hewitt wrote on Instagram, “We spend a lot of time on here showing our happiest moments and it’s easy to assume someone’s life is perfect.” She added, “Everyone’s fighting their own battles that they understandably choose not to share… I’m a very private person but there are some tribulations I’ve been facing recently so I wanted to say thank u guys for your love.”
A Phillippe source tells Gossip Cop, “There is no restraining order presently in force of any kind,” adding, “At the time it happened, there was a temporary order which was terminated only a few days after.” The insider maintains, “Elsie showed up to Ryan’s house uninvited” allegedly under the influence “a few days after he had broken up with her.” The source says, “She physically attacked Ryan, caused a scene and refused to leave his home. As she was ejected from [his home], she claims she fell and injured herself.”
Phillippe and Hewitt were first linked in April of this year when the two were spotted hanging out at Coachella. The actor was later seen having lunch with the 21-year-old model in Beverly Hills. Prior to his brief relationship with Hewitt, Phillippe dated law student Paulina Slagter for a number of years before they called off their engagement in November 2016. The actor was previously married to Reese Witherspoon from 1999-2007. They have two children together, 18-year-old Ava and 13-year-old Deacon. The actor also has a 6-year-old daughter named Kai from a relationship with actress Alexis Knapp.
Hewitt, who is very active on Instagram, was noticeably absent from the platform for a number of days in July. Gossip Cop has reached out to reps for both Phillippe and Hewitt, as well as to the LAPD, for more details about the situation. The story was first reported by The Blast.
