Ed Sheeran Reveals Why He's Not Releasing His New Music Anytime Soon

Ed Sheeran may have some new music ready to go but fans shouldn't expect to hear any of it anytime soon — and for a good reason.

The "Shape Of You" hitmaker spoke to People about new music, cheekily revealing the barest details when asked to describe it, saying only that he's "working on them and they're new songs." However, despite having some new songs in the works, the English crooner revealed that it will be a while before fans can hear them.

"But nothing's going to come out this year," he said, adding that he's focusing on being on tour rather than dropping new songs. "I'm enjoying being on tour. I released two records on tour last year and it's quite a lot being on tour and releasing records. So, I've made the new music and I'm just going to sit on it for a bit."

Sheeran dropped two albums in 2023, the first being Subtract, a continuation of his mathematics-themed projects that he released in May. In September, he dropped Autumn Variations, which also saw him recruiting fans to create music videos.

In addition to touring, Sheeran is being kept busy as a husband to wife, Cherry, and two daughters, Lyra Antarctica, 3, and Jupiter, who was born in May 2022. Fortunately for him, his daughters seem to be fans of his newer songs "because I don't really play my old songs in the house."

"I feel it'd be quite weird to just put on my discography," he said, "so they mostly know the new songs that I'm working on because I play them quite a lot."
