Female Meteorologist Mom Shamed For Reporting From Hurricane Storm Zone

Hurricane Florence has made landfall in North Carolina this morning near Wrightsville Beach, just east of Wilmington. Ginger Zee, chief meteorologist for ABC News, is covering the Category 1 Hurricane live from North Carolina. While it's common for meteorologists to report from storm zones, Ginger Zee was mom shamed for her decision to do so. She took to Twitter to respond to those who criticized her parenting and reminded everybody of what's really important during a time like this.

"Lots of attacks this morning. I know I’m a mother. I love my family. I also love my job. I always put safety first. I’m in safe spot:no one could have anticipated boards popping up on a deck," Zee wrote. "Let’s focus on the people who are in danger and need our information and prayers." Zee shared a video of the weather conditions along with her message.

North Carolina based author Sarah Dessen jumped in to the conversation to support Zee's decision to report live from the storm zone. "I'm watching several male meteorologists literally standing in the storm and I bet they're not getting blowback about their kids. A lot of moms work. Her kids are safe and fine with her husband."

Let's follow Zee and Dessen's lead and stop shaming a meteorologist for doing her job. Everybody keep North Carolina residents, as well as all others affected by Hurricane Florence, in our thoughts.
