The Killers Poke Fun Of 'Rigged Grammys' For Nomination Snub

Rock (especially women artists) was well-represented in the 2021 Grammy nominations, but one notably absent name was The Killers. The band released its "celestial" sixth album Imploding The Mirage over the summer, which produced singles like "Dying Breed," "My Own Soul's Warning," "Fire In Bone," and "Caution." And none of it was nominated for a golden gramophone.

The Killers took to social media to poke fun of the "rigged Grammys" (and the 45th president), tweeting: "OBSERVERS WERE NOT ALLOWED INTO THE COUNTING ROOMS. WE WON THE GRAMMYS, GOT LOADS OF LEGAL VOTES. BAD THINGS HAPPENED WHICH OUR OBSERVERS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SEE. NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. DOZENS OF BALLOTS WERE SENT TO PEOPLE WHO NEVER ASKED FOR THEM! #RIGGEDGRAMMYS #WEWON"

See the amusing tweet below.

While The Killers took the lighthearted route in addressing their snub, other artists weren't so kind. The Weeknd blasted the Recording Academy for leaving him off the nominations list.

"The Grammys remain corrupt," The Weeknd wrote in a social media post after the snub. "You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency..." His shocking absence is thought to be retaliation for choosing to play the Super Bowl halftime show over the award ceremony; however, Recording Academy Chair and Interim President/CEO Harvey Mason Jr. rebuked that theory in a statement.
