Plenty of coins are worth more than their face value, but for nearly all of them it is because of an error of some kind that sets the coin apart. However, when it comes to the 2024 nickel, that isn't the case. In fact, every single 2024 nickel is right now worth far more than five cents. The reason? It's because the 2024 nickel is actually very rare, with only 30 million minted. It may sound like a lot but not when compared to nickels from other years, which saw over 700 million minted.
The Instagram account The Coin Channel described it all in a recent video, pointing out how the 2024 nickels are now selling for between $3 and $5 each.
With 30 million 2024 nickels out there, there is a lot of money to be made if you collect a bunch of them. So what should you look for? Well the heads side of the coin shows a newer depiction of Thomas Jefferson, with the third president looking right at you, while the tails side shows a more detailed version of the the design used from 1938 to 2003, which portrays Jefferson's home, Monticello.
If you find any, feel free to put it up on eBay and make a few bucks, or, if it is in great condition, get it graded over at PCGS.com/submissionguide and potentially sell your 2024 nickel for hundreds of dollars.
