Leighton Meester recently broke her silence on the death of her Gossip Girl co-star Michelle Trachtenberg two months after her tragic passing.
The Monte Carlo actress told Flaunt Magazine on Tuesday (May 6) that Trachtenberg's death was "very sad for everyone who knew her."
"It’s devastating. She was a wonderful, talented person, and everyone loved her. It’s very, very sad for everyone who knew her."
Meester played core-six queen Blair Waldorf in the beloved series, which ran from 2007 to 2012, alongside Trachtenberg, who played Upper East Side bad girl Georgiana Sparks. Meester also revealed she's constantly amazed by the show's lasting ability to connect with new generations.
"Now, I can see that it continues — in some ways, even more so than back then — to live on, which is incredible."
Meester was not the only Gossip Girl alum to offer a public statement regarding the Harriet the Spy standout's death. Taylor Momsen (Jenny Humphrey), Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass), Chace Crawford (Nate Archibald), Blake Lively (Serena Van Der Woodsen), and Penn Badgley (Dan Humphrey) all paid tribute to the actress, praising her joyous persona and undeniable light.
Trachtenberg passed away on February 26, 2025, due to complications with diabetes. Her mother found her unresponsive inside her New York City apartment months after receiving a liver transplant. While the 39-year-old star was not open with fans about her condition, she did let close family and friends know that she was suffering in the year leading up to her death, per People.
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer sensation is survived by her mother and father, Michael and Lana, and her sister Irene.
