Miley Cyrus is speaking out on her engagement to fiancé Maxx Morando, including the reason she was "so surprised" by his proposal.
Reports circulated on Tuesday that the "Flowers" singer, 33, and the Liily drummer, 27, were engaged following four years of dating after sparking rumors at the premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash when she was spotted wearing a chunky diamond ring on her left hand ring finger.
During an interview with Good Morning America on Wednesday (December 3), Cyrus opened up about the engagement for the first time and shared why she was surprised when Morando popped the question during a recent trip to Japan.
"I am not easy to surprise because I love to control every situation, and I had completely surrendered," she said. "And I'm telling you, I was so, so, so surprised."
The "Walk of Fame" musician, who "of course" said yes, added that her new fiancé "did good" when choosing the perfect engagement ring, a chunky cushion cut 14K yellow gold ring by jewelry designer Jacquie Aiche, Page Six reports.
Cyrus also explained to People one aspect of her engagement that has "astounded" her in the wake of the news.
"The detail that I can share is that for us, our privacy and us kind of keeping it small has been something that I've been astounded that I've actually been able to have and being able to kind of have more choice," she said, adding, "I think it's also being older, being more protective of what I'm open to sharing."
Cyrus and Morando, who are private about their relationship, have been linked since November 2021 but didn't go public with their romance until April 2022.
